Armed Robbery Arrests
Tariq J. Jackson, 20, of Newark was arrested yesterday, April 12th, for a November 18, 2010 robbery and aggravated assault.
Jackson is the final subject that was sought in connection with this incident. Our investigation, led by Det. Michael Ricci, determined Jackson to be the subject (noted below) who pointed a handgun at the attendant, struck him with it, fired a shot, and then fled on foot.
Jackson is charged with robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is being held at the Union County Jail on $100,000 bail.

Hillside police arrested Marcell T. Arline, 22, of Hillside and Terrance K. Smith, 32, of Hillside were arrested for the armed robbery of the BP gas station at 1400 Liberty Avenue.
In the early morning hours today, November 18, at 3:00 AM three men entered the convenience store of the gas station, one of the men pointing a black handgun at the attendant and demanding money. When the attendant refused, the man with the gun began to strike him in the head with gun and fired a shot. While the incident was taking place the attendant was able to activate a panic alarm that alerted the Hillside police. Arriving within seconds, Arline was observed walking away from the gas station. Officer Lorne Ragin stopped him and conducted a brief investigation which led to Arline's arrest for this robbery. Further investigation yeilded a description of the car used to transport the men to the BP as a beige 1996 Honda Accord. Hillside police immediately began a search for the vehicle. Approximately two hours later Sgt. Paul White observed the Honda at the intersection of Chestnut and Hillside Avenues. Sgt. White attempted to stop the vehicle driven by Smith who attempted to elude police by accelerating and driving erratically causing the him to lose control of the Honda and strike the building at 1462 Chestnut Avenue. Even after Sgt. White had blocked his path Smith put the Honda in reverse and struck the police vehicle in an unsuccessful attempt to escape capture. Smith was immediately arrested by Sgt. White and Officers John Leshko and Matthew Casterline for eluding and aggravated assault for striking the police vehicle. Later, Smith's arrest also included the robbery of the BP gas station.
Smith is charged with robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a weapon, and two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is pending transport to the Union County Jail and held on $100,000 bail.
Arline is also charged with robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is pending transport to the Union County Jail and held on $100,000 bail.
Hillside police are looking for the third subject who is described as a 19 - 25 year old black male, approximately 6' tall, thin build, wearing light blue jeans and a navy blue hoody.
