Robbery Arrest and Eluding Arrest

Arrested at 10:14 AM this morning was Cinthia Burgos, 23, of Elizabeth for the December 13th robbery of the Dunkin Donuts at 1171 Liberty Avenue in Hillside.

Burgos, a former employee of the Dunkin Donuts, entered the establishment at 4:56 AM yesterday morning and demanded the cashier give her all of the money inside the cash register and claimed there was a "guy outside with a gun." When he refused she pushed him out of the way, opened the cash register, and took $422 from it. Meanwhile a female patron entered the store and tried to stop Burgos who then physically assaulted her. The cashier then tried to hold Burgos down until the police could be summoned, but he too was assaulted by Burgos and was concerned about the initial threat she made. So, they allowed her to leave and called Hillside police who responded and attempted to locate Burgos, but were unsuccessful. The incident was then turned over to the Hillside police detective bureau for full investigation. Both victims sustained minor injuries.

Following their investigation detectives located Burgos this morning, placed her under arrest, and charged her with robbery. Burgos is pending transport to the Union County Jail with bail set at $100,000.

Qiyyamah B. Griffin (also known as Qiyyamah Reese), 29, of Newark was arrested following a motor vehicle pursuit of the silver 2010 Chrysler 300 she was driving on.

On Saturday morning, December 11th, at 1:25 AM Hillside police received a call of two females fighting near the intersection of Compton Terrace and Dorer Avenue. As officers Bryan Arrington and William Blakey arrived they observed Griffin striking another female . As soon as Griffin noticed the officers she ran into a stolen 2010 Chrysler and accelerated away. The officers followed and attempted to stop Griffin. However, she disregarded the officers' signal and led them on a pursuit into Newark. In the area of Maple Avenue and Goldsmith Avenue Griffin lost control of the vehicle and struck a retaining wall and a parked vehicle. Backup officer Blanca Rivera arrived and assisted in the apprehension and subsequent investigation of Griffin which yielded the seizure of marijuana and (19) wax paper folds of heroin. The vehicle was determined to be owned by a car rental business and stolen from the current renter last week.

Griffin was transported to Hillside police headquarters where she was charged with attempting to elude police, car theft, 2 counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana and heroin), and assault. She is being held at the Union County Jail on $40,000 bail.
